Jeanerette, LA – October 20th, 2021: American Ship Review has selected the Metal Shark 70 Defiant Fireboat as its “Ship of the Year” for 2021. Designed in-house and built at Metal Shark’s Franklin, Louisiana shipyard for Canaveral Fire Rescue in Cape Canaveral, Florida, the ultramodern, American-made 70’ x 22’, 3,600-horsepower “Fireboat 2” dramatically increases maritime response capability at busy Port Canaveral, which moves approximately 6 million tons of cargo per year, counts SpaceX and Blue Origin among its key tenants, and recently became the nation’s first liquid natural gas (LNG) cruise terminal with the arrival of the LNG-fueled Carnival cruise ship Mardi Gras.
