Like the other offerings in Metal Shark’s Courageous line of center consoles, the rugged 27 Courageous is a versatile deep vee craft designed for utility, law enforcement, and fire rescue applications. Its proven hull and stout construction assure outstanding sea keeping while providing a stable and dry work platform at rest. The 27 Courageous boasts an impressive pedigree: In 2003, the vessel was selected as the platform for the USCG’s “Trailerable Aids to Navigation Boat” (TANB) due to its performance, efficiency, and versatility. 100 of the workhorse TANB vessels were built and delivered. Today, the 27 Courageous is in use not only by the Coast Guard, but also by law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and numerous commercial operators worldwide.

Hull Design

The 27 Courageous boasts a proven Metal Shark hull design that has been engineered and built to deliver maximum economy, performance, and longevity. To achieve its superior hull life rating, the vessel’s hull, deck, and console are composed entirely of heavy, precision-welded plates of corrosion-resistant 5086 aluminum-magnesium alloy. With an 8’ 6” beam, the 27 Courageous may be easily trailered, while on the water its astounding 20,000 lb. towing capacity gets the job done. Twin 250HP outboard engines capably and efficiently propel the 27 Courageous to speeds in excess of 45 knots. Metal Shark is an OEM supplier for all major outboard brands and can rig according to customer preference or fleet commonality requirements.

Deck Layout

The 27 Courageous features a tested and proven no-nonsense workboat layout that allows for safe and easy access around the boat. With its pronounced flared bow and deep freeboard, the 27 Courageous boasts an extraordinarily roomy cockpit. The vessel features a massive foredeck that serves as an ideal working platform. Available electric or manual davits add extra utility, and a large removable door may be added to facilitate water access. This door latches securely in place when not in use. A full-height transom offers security, while oversized 6” scuppers provide quick drainage for the massive self-bailing cockpit.

Console & Hard Top

The 27 Courageous has been designed for easy handling by a lone operator. A large dash area easily places all instrumentation front and center, and vessel controls are placed within easy reach. A full height console windshield offers outstanding visibility from the helm while enabling all-weather operation. A full curtain package may be added for further crew protection. An oversized working top with removable rails allows crews to safely work alongside elevated structures, while optional shock mitigating seating allows for additional safety and comfort.
